Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities concluded he posed a definite escape threat while under domestic detention.
The former head of state was found guilty of orchestrating a military coup in last fall and handed more than over two decades in jail, but he continued under confinement pending legal challenges.
High Court Judge Justice Moraes said the action to imprison the elderly politician was a safety action after "new facts" were revealed.
This included trying to remove his electronic bracelet and a summons to a demonstration that could enable a chance to flee".
Legal Document Reveals Flight Fears
In a document approving the custody, the magistrate said information from the facility tracking his home detention suggested the ex-president's "intention to break the electronic ankle bracelet to ensure success in his flight.
This, it said, would be "facilitated by the confusion caused by the gathering called by his offspring.
His child, Flávio Bolsonaro, who works as a senator, called for a assembly of his supporters near his father's house to take place on Saturday night.
Flávio Bolsonaro wrote on digital networks on Friday: "Are you going to fight for your homeland, or observe everything from your smartphone there on your sofa? I call on you to struggle with us."
He said the demonstration would be so backers could offer prayers for his physical condition and for the reestablishment of democratic governance in our country."
Diplomatic Refuge Fears
Part of Justice Moraes's determination was the possibility of his transfer to embassies near the dwelling, considering that the probes revealed a history of organizing to ask for protection through a consular facility", a declaration said.

International Reactions

Recent Legal Requests
It was only on Friday that the former president's lawyers asked the High Court to permit him to complete his entire prison term under domestic detention, with digital surveillance.
They also requested that Bolsonaro be allowed to leave his home for medical treatment, saying he needed frequent medical attention for pulmonary infections and other illnesses.
Context of Sentencing
He was found guilty of leading a plot aimed at retaining his authority after he failed to win the presidential race to his political opponent, Lula.
Top judicial officials said that he was aware of a plot which included plans to murder his opponent and his vice-presidential running mate, Geraldo Alckmin, and to imprison and murder Alexandre de Moraes - the Supreme Court justice who has been presiding over his judicial proceedings.
The plot was prevented because it didn't receive the support of the army and air force commanders. The current president was took office without problem on January 1st, 2023.
But a seven days after, on January 8th, numerous Bolsonaro supporters attacked and damaged government buildings in the federal district, Brasília.
The security forces took action and around fifteen hundred individuals were arrested.
The justices found that the demonstrators had been encouraged by Bolsonaro whose scheme, they said, was for the Brazilian military to step in, restore order and reinstate his authority.
At the moment, his attorneys called the 27 years and three months sentence extremely harsh.
He was also barred from seeking elected position until twenty-sixty - eight years later after the completion of his term.
The ex-leader called the court case a "witch hunt and said it was aimed at blocking him competing in the next presidential race.
